🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: THE BIG 5-0!

Number of the Day: 50

It was FIFTY years ago this fall that the 1974 Baylor football squad
sent shockwaves through the Southwest Conference.

When the 1974 college football season began, the Bears were a popular choice to finish last in the Southwest Conference. But 40 years (and one miracle) later, the 1974 team has anchored its place among the best in Baylor history.

In just the third year of head coach Grant Teaff’s 21-year tenure at Baylor, the Bears won eight games (matching the program’s high over the previous two decades), and three of their four losses came to top-10 teams. A 6-1 conference record earned the Bears the 1974 SWC crown, Baylor’s first undisputed title in 50 years, and Teaff was named national coach of the year.

The season also included one of the Baylor football’s signature moments. The Bears went into halftime trailing 12th-ranked Texas 24-7, but scored 27 unanswered points to win by 10 in what became known as “the Miracle on the Brazos.” Baylor left the scoreboard on all night to celebrate, and many fans (including President Herbert Reynolds) spent the night on the field.

👏 BEYOND THE SPORTS

In late May, most college students were wrapping up their semester and making their summer plans.

Not so for eight select BU student-athletes who were selected to attend the Black Student-Athlete Summit that was hosted by USC on the Los Angeles campus.

The group recently sat down to talk about their experience.

🎥 BAYLOR+: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

It’s only been a few months since Bayley Humphrey helped guide the Baylor Acrobatics & Tumbling to a ninth straight National Championship.

Recently, Baylor+ sat down with the four-time national champion as she navigates an incredibly busy, and interesting, life after graduating from Baylor.

🎟 YOU PICK IT!

This week, Baylor Athletics unveiled a new Mini Plan option for the upcoming 2024 Football season.

The new “You Pick It” mini plan offers flexibility and allows fans to build their own mini-plan from three tiers of options to enjoy McLane Stadium this fall.

The Baylor Family can purchase the You Pick It mini plan for $225. Each plan includes the Bears' Homecoming Game on Oct. 26 against Oklahoma State and from there fans can build their plan based on their schedule for the remaining two games.

🎙 SIC ’EM POD: DAVID MURPHY

On this week’s episode we’re catching up with Baylor
baseball legend and former big leaguer David Murphy.

Murphy had an incredibly successful career in the Green & Gold that
included a 1st team All-American selection, and went on to hear
his name called in the first round in the 2003 MLB draft.

Now, after a long career in the majors, David Murphy
is continuing to pour into the game he loves.

🤔 SIC ’EM TRIVIA
