🔺 Shapen Up. In less than 10 days, all the work will be put on display.

Leading the way for the Bears once again will be redshirt junior QB Blake Shapen, who this week was named to the 2023 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List.

The award annually recognizes the top senior or upperclassman quarterback set to graduate with their class. Shapen is one of 48 quarterbacks named to the watch list.

Shapen, a 2022 All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection, threw for 2,790 yards with 18 touchdowns last season in his first full year as the BU starter. He completed 63.3% of his passes, the fifth-best total in a single season in program history and also ranked ninth on BU's all-time leaderboard for passing yards in a season.

His 137.7 efficiency rating as a passer was just shy of cracking the top-12 in school history. Off the field, Shapen was tabbed a first-team Academic All-Big 12 member.

🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 9 DAYS

One last run.

That’s what is on the mind of #9 TJ Franklin, a fifth-year senior and defensive captain for the Bears.

Ever since he stepped on campus, Franklin has been a force for Baylor, playing in 45 games, all at defensive end, over the past four seasons.

The Temple, Texas native has racked up 95 tackles, including 13.5 for a loss. He has eight sacks in his career, including a career-high four in 2021. He also has nine QB hurries and six pass breakups in his four years.

What’s in store for his last run? He talked about that last week after practice.
