🏈 YOUR CHAIR, SIR…

One of our own will have the head seat at the big table next fall.

On Tuesday, it was announced that Baylor Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Mack B. Rhoades IV will serve as the chairman of the 2025 College Football Playoff Selection Committee.

Rhoades will be in his second year of a three-year term on the CFP selection committee after playing a role in the selection of the first 12-team field in CFP history in 2024.

In his eighth year leading Baylor's athletics program, Rhoades will replace Michigan Athletics Director Warde Manuel, who served as the chairman in 2024. Previously N.C. State's Boo Corrigan chaired the committee for two seasons.

🔼 Drive For Five. The drive down I-35 was filled with a lot of smiles yet again for the Baylor men’s hoops team.

For the fifth straight year, the Bears rolled into TCU and came away victorious, grinding out a 61-58 victory over the Horned Frogs to jump into a tie for sixth in the Big 12.

Clutch free-throws by Robert Wright III sealed it late, but it was a 12-2 second-half run that took over the game, led by two 3-pointers from Norchad Omier, who finished with his 18th double-double of the season, 19 points and 12 rebounds.

VJ Edgecombe added 18 points and seven rebounds, while Wright III finished with 11 points, seven assists and two steals for the Bears.

🔼 Nine Is Fine. A dazzling performance from the bullpen and timely hitting led the Baylor baseball squad to their ninth victory of the season on Tuesday.

Hosting in-state foe Tarleton, the Bears rode 6.2 scoreless innings of relief and a pair of clutch two-RBI hits from Ty Johnson and Pearson Riebock to a 7-2 victory over the visiting Texans.

BU used six different pitchers in relief to shut down the Texans (4-9) as redshirt senior right-hander Andrew Petrowski picked up his first win of the year, retiring all four batters he faced with two strikeouts.

🔼 Living On The Edge. When it comes time to name finalists for the Jerry West Award, might as well pencil in a Baylor Bear in the group.

For the third time in five years, Baylor had a spot among the five finalists for the prestigious award, this year, it was freshman sensation VJ Edgecombe.

Baylor is one of just three schools to have a Jerry West Award finalist in three of the last five seasons, joining Arizona and Kansas. Edgecombe is the latest Baylor back-court star to be recognized by the Hall of Fame after Adam Flagler (2023) and MaCio Teague (2021) were finalists as well.

Named after Class of 1980 Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West, the annual honor in its ninth year recognizes the top shooting guards in the country.
