⏱️ COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 7️⃣2️⃣ DAYS

That’s right, we are just 7️⃣2️⃣ days away from kickoff of the 2025 season!

No better way to count us down than remembering one of the all-time greats and the best to ever wear #72 at Baylor, first team All-American Jason Smith.

A native of Dallas, Texas, this former Tight End started four season on the Offensive Line for the Bears from 2005-2008, earning first team All-Big 12 Conference honors and first team All-America honors by the Associated Press and the Football Writers Association of America in 2008. He is also a member of Baylor Football’s All-Decade Team of the 2000s.

Following his senior year, Smith was among the nation’s top players to receive an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl All-Star Game. In the spring of 2009, he was selected as the second overall pick in the first round of the NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams. Smith spent four seasons in the league.

🔼 Class Act. Not only can she get it done on the field, she gets it done in the classroom as well.

Baylor Softball's Shaylon Govan capped off a successful academic and athletic season, earning College Sports Communicators (CSC) Second Team Academic All-America accolades.

After picking up Academic All-American honors last year, Govan becomes the fourth player in Baylor softball history to receive the accolade twice.

The Katy, Texas, native, holds a 3.79 GPA in her Community Health Science Master's program. She is the only Bear to receive three-time NFCA All-American and two-time Academic All-American honors during her career. 

🔼 Invitation Earned. Before even donning a Baylor uniform, Ava Verplancke is already making a name for herself.

This week, the Pepperdine transfer earned an invitation to the first-of-its-kind Women’s College Talent ID Camp for Team USA, which opens up today in Atlanta and will run for the next five days at the new Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center, which is slated to officially open in the spring of 2026.

The camp is part of the growing U.S. Youth National Teams’ scouting strategy with the objective of increasing programming opportunities for college-specific players with high potential and therefore expanding the U.S. Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 Women’s National Team player pools.
