Good Monday Morning. You know those Rosetta Stone commercials that we all try and skip over as quickly as possible? Well, we might need to fire those back up.

Our Baylor men’s hoops team is using every last bit of summer to get better, and even mixing in some new experiences while they’re at it.

Fall teams are back in action this week and much more!

🔺 Oui Oui. Rosetta Stone on Speed Dial, please!

That’s right, our Baylor Bears are headed across the pond for an experience of a lifetime with a 10-day trip through France.

These international trips are permitted by the NCAA every four years and allows the team to learn new cultures, see things they’ve never experienced and play a few exhibition games in the process.

Make sure to follow @BaylorMBB on all social media accounts and right here in the Brew to catch all the sights and sounds of the upcoming trip!

🔺 We missed you guys! THIS WEEK, FINALLY!!!!

That’s right Bears fans, the Green and Gold are officially back on the practice fields this week.

The football and soccer squads get their training camps started on Wednesday, while the volleyball team will officially hit the courts this weekend to get their camp underway.

We can’t wait to see what 2023-24 has in store! Keep an eye on the Brews over the next few weeks to get you all the sights, sounds and much more as the Bears prepare for the upcoming year.

🔺 Welcome Back, Old Friend. One of the founding members of the Big 12 is coming home.

Late last week, it was released that Colorado will be rejoining the Big 12 conference beginning in 2024-25.

The Buffs were one of the original group of schools that made up the Big 12 conference when it formed in 1996.

🔺 Going Camping. Over the river and through the woods… Oh, it’s not that kinda of camping?

You might have heard of this guy before, he kinda just set the single-season rushing record at Baylor in 2021. He’s kind of fast.

That’s right, Abram Smith is taking his talents to NFL camps as the former Bear was invited to tryouts with the Buffalo Bills and Las Vegas Raiders.

Smith was in camp with the New Orleans Saints, but was among the last cuts before the season started.

This past spring, he was the first overall pick in the 2023 XFL draft and had a standout season with the DC Defenders, who were the North Division Champions and posted a 9-1 record.

Smith was outstanding in those 10 games, rushing for nearly 800 yards and seven TDs. He was named to the 2023 All-XFL First Team.

🔺 Mama, There Goes That Man Again. We tried to warn them last week. We really did.

Do not let Max Muncy get hot. Welp, they just didn’t listen.

On Saturday night, the former Bear did something that NO other Dodger had ever done (since 1920 when RBI became an official stat). In LA’s 3-2 win over the Reds, Munch recorded all the team’s hits and drove in all the team’s runs in a win… it had never been done by a single Dodger before then.

Over his last seven games, Muncy is hitting .320 with five HRs and 13 RBIs, while scoring eight runs and having an on-base percentage of .419.

Now, the Dodgers are surging up the standings and have a 3-game lead in the division standings and sit with the second best record in the entire National League.

🔺 ICYMI... At the heart of BU are the people.

Our people look out for each other and serve the community around them and that’s exactly what Brittney Griner continues to do, years after her departure from Waco.

Griner received the WNBA Cares Community Assist Award for the month of June. It’s the second time in her career that she’s received the honor.

The award honors Griner’s efforts in championing the safe return of wrongful detainees overseas and continued contributions to help marginalized communities in the Phoenix area.

Since rejoining the Mercury in February 2023, Griner has teamed with Bring Our Families Home, an organization that works with families of Americans held hostage or wrongfully detained to spread awareness about their cases. Griner and the Mercury have hosted families and friends through this program at Mercury games in Phoenix and around the country when the team visits other markets.

🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 33 DAYS

The Date: November 11, 1978
The Location: Waco, Texas
The Opponent: Arkansas

33 tackles. Yes, you read that right. 33 tackles.

In case, we didn’t already know it by that time (we did), Mike Singletary put another stamp on his Baylor career on that date back in 1978 when he set a single-game tackle record.

That record would stand as the NCAA single game record as well, but the NCAA didn’t recognize tackles as an official stat until 2000.

17 Days. That’s right folks.

We are just 20 days away from the start of the 2023-2024 Baylor athletic calendar. The Baylor women’s squad kicks things off (literally) when they travel to Oregon to take on the Ducks on August 17th at 9 pm CST.

Two weeks later, the soccer, volleyball, cross country and football teams are ALL in action. Block off that weekend and make sure you’ve got the Green and Gold ready!

The Bears are coming.

🤔 SIC ’EM TRIVIA

Medal For The Mantle. We are less than three weeks away from the start of the 2023-24 Baylor athletic calendar.. 17 days to be exact.

One of those fall sports that will help kick off the year will be the cross country squads, who be in action in early September.

Last fall, the Bears had three All-Region honorees: Ryan Day, Drew Snyder and Ellie Hodge.

The All-Region performance from Hodge was the first by a member of the women’s cross country squad since….

Of course, we’re going to take another shot at highlighting the fact that we’re only 17 days away… sorry, we’re a tad excited!

And yes, Ellie was the first Lady Bear since 2017 to take home an NCAA All-Region medal.
