That’s just the tip of the iceberg of the success that the Baylor women’s program has put on display in recent years.

That success has turned into crowds of 5,000+ per night at the Ferrel Center, so make sure to secure your seats today with your Baylor Women’s Basketball season tickets.

You don’t want to miss what will surely be another exciting year for the Green and Gold.

🔺 What Can Brown Do For You? That’s exactly what the Indiana Pacers are hoping to find out as they’ve signed former Bear Kendall Brown to a two-way contract for the second straight season.

Brown, who only spent his freshman season in Waco, averaged 9.7 points and 4.9 rebounds during the 2021-2022 campaign. He earned Big 12 All-Rookie team accolades during that year as well.

He was drafted in the second round of last year’s NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, who eventually traded his draft rights to the Pacers a few weeks later.

The Cottage Grove, Minnesota native played sparingly last year in the Pacers organization, but dealt with injuries sidelined him and kept him off the court.

🔺 Max-imum Effort. Welp, that’s a sight that Baylor fans are used to.

For three seasons, Bears fans watched plenty of balls launched way over the outfield fence at Baylor Ballpark by Max Muncy.

Over 10 years later, Muncy is still up to his old tricks.

Now in his eighth MLB season, the Midland, Texas native is on a tear recently, hitting four HRs and driving in 12 RBIs this week for the Dodgers, who have now surged, winning 12 of their past 20 and now sit as the second-best team in the National League.

The four HRs this week have now given Muncy four seasons of 25+ HRs with the Dodgers. He sits at 169 career long balls at the MLB level.

In the long storied history of the Dodgers franchise, Muncy is now just the eighth Dodger ever to have four seasons of 25+ HRs for the Boys in Blue.

🔺 A Day In The Mecca. All diehard hoops fans know the meaning, importance and history around Rucker Park.

Recently, our own Coach Drew spent the day there among other Big 12 basketball coaches and hundreds of area kids for the first-ever Big 12 In the Park Days.

Coach Drew and all the coaches spent time working the kids through drills, giving them positive messaging and serving them.

The afternoon was a huge hit for the conference.

🔺 Stable Schedule. With five home meets and the Big 12 Championship on tap, the Baylor equestrian squad is looking forward to an exciting 2023-24 season.

This week, the full equestrian schedule was released, offering plenty of opportunities to catch the Bears in action.

🔺 The Butler… With the Net… In Washington, D.C. One of the most beloved smiles in Baylor history is lighting up rooms this week as former Bear Jared Butler signed a deal to join the Washington Wizards.

Butler, who starred on the 2021 National Championship team, will be in his third NBA season after spending the past two with Utah and Oklahoma City.

This summer, in four games with the OKC Thunder’s Summer League team, Butler shined, averaging 20.0 points, 4.3 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game, while shooting 50-percent from the field. In his last game of the summer, he poured in eight three-pointers en route to 31 points.

During those past two seasons, Butler has played in 48 NBA contests, averaging 4.8 points and 1.5 assists.

Last year in the NBA G-League, he posted averages of 16.7 ppg, 6.3 mpg, 3.3 rpg, and 0.9 spg in his 27 total games split between the Grand Rapids Gold and the Thunders’ G League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue.

🔺 For the Kids. Our Bears have been busy impacting future generations this week!

On Monday morning, student-athletes from the women’s basketball, football, volleyball, equestrian and acrobatics/tumbling squads all spent time at MELA Camp, which is run by the Baylor School of Education.

Through the use of numbers and mind games, the Bears helped the kids learn through sports and activities.

“Education is the investment current generations make into impacting the lives of generations to come.”

🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 37 DAYS

Before RGIII came along, no Baylor QB had ever thrown for more than 22 TDs in a season.

It’s safe to say that RGIII completely transformed things a tad.

In his breakout 2011 season, he rolled through opponents to the tune of a record-setting 37 passing TDs.

In addition, he tossed for 4,293 yards, ran for 699 yards, ran for another 10 TDs. Griffin III helped the Bears to a 10-win season, a bowl win and a top-15 final ranking.

Oh yeah, and he won some award called the Heisman? We’ve heard it’s kind of a big deal.

🤔 SIC ’EM TRIVIA

Streak Starters. As we mentioned above, Baylor’s women’s hoops is among the best in the country and is currently on a streak of 19 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

That streak first started with the 2003-04 squad that reeled off a 26-9 record and earned a spot in the Sweet Sixteen of the 2004 NCAA Tournament.

Can you name the leading scorer for that 2003-04 team?

Think you’ve got it?

Answer: Sophia Young-Malcolm.

That’s right, Sophia Young-Malcolm averaged 16.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.5 steals per night, while shooting 56-percent from the field.

After years of playing at the professional level, Young-Malcolm hit several different colleges to help student-athletes before returning to Waco in May of 2021 to join the Bears staff as an Assistant AD for Player Development for Baylor women’s basketball.
