🔺 Is That Flash? Folks, we are less than two weeks away.

Doesn’t it feel good to see the Bears back in McLane? Man, we can’t wait to see the real thing on Sept. 2nd.

Doesn’t it feel good to see the Bears back in McLane? Man, we can’t wait to see the real thing on Sept. 2nd.

And we can tell you, they… are… READY!

🔺 Two-For-One. Head baseball coach Mitch Thompson got a 2-for-1 deal this past weekend with the additions of two grad transfers for the next spring.

Joning the Green and Gold in 2024 will be utility man Kade Fletcher (Oklahoma) and infielder Mason Greer (Missouri State).

Fletcher, a versatile defender who can play the outfield, first base or catcher, began his collegiate career at Paris Junior College before spending the last two seasons at Oklahoma. At PJC, he hit .250 with four home runs and 30 RBIs in 2021 and batted .341 with five home runs and a .541 OBP in 2020. After transferring to OU, Fletcher made just three appearances for the Sooners in 2023 and scored two runs.

Greer played the 2022 and 2023 seasons at Missouri State, enjoying a breakout junior campaign in which he batted .312 with 10 home runs and 53 RBIs. In his breakout 2022 season, Greer ranked third in the Missouri Valley Conference with 21 doubles, which was also good for seventh all-time in a single season at MSU. He was named the 2022 MVC Tournament MVP after hitting .385 with nine runs scored, eight RBIs and six extra-base hits in the event. The switch-hitting corner infielder racked up 21 multi-hit games, including 10 with at least three, and drove in multiple runs on 15 occasions.

Prior to his time at MSU, Greer played for Thompson at Waco's own McLennan Community College and was part of the 2021 national championship-winning squad. That year, Greer hit .322 with 17 home runs, 66 RBIs and totaled 33 extra-base hits in 62 games with the Highlanders.

🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 12 DAYS

The year? 1945.
The date? September 29th.
The location? Waco, Texas.
The opponent? West Texas A&M

After a two-year hiatus of Baylor football due to World War II, the Bears rolled back in dominating fashion, shutting out their first two opponents by the combined score of 72-0.

In the second of those two games, Baylor’s defense was stifling on another level, holding West Texas A&M to -15 yards of total offense.

Read that again. -15 yards of TOTAL offense.

Now that’s a suffocating defensive effort. (sorry, no footage available from that year)
