Good Friday Morning Bears. There’s nothing like a road trip that brings people together. Especially, when your group is alone in a foreign country.
That’s exactly what BU women’s hoops is hoping to build from their summer trip as they jumped on a jet plane yesterday to enjoy some sights and time together.
Where they headed? What’s on the itinerary? We’ve got all the details!

🔺 Experience Of A Lifetime. An experience they will truly never forget.
Yesterday morning, our Baylor women’s basketball family joined with friends and family for a group prayer before they depart for a trip that they are all looking forward to.
Only one of the 13 players on the current roster has been at BU for more than a year, which makes this trip even more important to build connection.
"The trip is really about cultural experience, spending time together, opening up the world to them. For us, our core values start with connection, so do we do a good job of finding ways to connect while we're over there?,” said head coach Nikki Collen.
Just some @NBA hoopers back where it all began 🏠🐻🏀

🔺 No Place Like Home. It’s no secret that the NBA and Baylor men’s hoops has built quite a strong pipeline in recent years.
This week, that pipeline was on display right here in Waco as Taurean Prince, Davion Mitchell, Jared Butler and Ish Waingwright all were in town to get some run at good ole Home Sweet Home.
Great to have the fellas back in town!
🔺 Stand Up And Stand Out. There’s very few places that focus more upon serving others than here at Baylor.
For sophomore safety Alfonzo Allen, he’s done that and then some and his work is recognized as he was named to the 2023 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.
The award honors student-athletes who are inspired to serve others and make positive impacts on society. The Wuerffel Trophy is named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida who parlayed his success on the football field into a lifetime of service.
In his time away from the football field, Allen has volunteered with No Limitations – A Special Needs Sports Ministry and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and also went on a mission trip to Louisiana with Baylor Athletics.
The Miami, Fla., native played in all 13 games during his true freshman season last year with the Bears and logged significant time on special teams. He made three tackles, including two for loss, as a reserve at the STAR position.
The crew is back at Betty Lou 👀

🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 29 DAYS
Was there any doubt where we were going with #29? I mean, come on, really, you knew already.
Coming out of Bellville, Texas, the Bears coaching staff knew they got a good one, but this good? We’re not sure if anyone could’ve predicted that other than Richard Reese himself.
He set a program record for rushing yards by a freshman, ranked fourth all-time with 14 rushing TDs in a single season and earned Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year accolades, along with several Freshman All-American honors.
This fall, he’s looking to add to it even more as he was named to the Preseason Big 12 All-Conference squad and numerous Watch Lists for the upcoming season.
With the speed he’s put on display so far, it should come as no surprise that he was also a track star at Bellville, running springs for his high school squad.

🤔 SIC ’EM TRIVIA
20-20 Club. This fall, the Baylor volleyball team will be chasing its eighth consecutive season of 20+ wins.
Prior to the current streak, the Bears had two streaks of three 20+ win seasons (1978-80 & 1991-93), but hadn’t gotten past the three straight seasons.
Entering the 2023 season, how many total seasons of 20+ wins do the Bears have in their program history?
Got a guess?
