🔺 Mad Max. For three years, Bears fans watched plenty of balls launched way over the outfield fence at Baylor Ballpark by Max Muncy.

Over 10 years later, Muncy is still up to his old tricks.

Now in his eighth MLB season, the Midland, Texas native is on a tear recently, hitting four HRs and driving in 12 RBIs this week for the Dodgers, who have now surged, winning 12 of their past 20 and now sit as the second-best team in the National League.

The four HRs this week have now given Muncy four seasons of 25+ HRs with the Dodgers. He sits at 169 career long balls at the MLB level.

🔺 Wiz Kid. One of the most beloved smiles in Baylor history is lighting up rooms this week as former Bear Jared Butler signed a deal to join the Washington Wizards.

Butler, who starred on the 2021 National Championship team, will be in his third NBA season after spending the past two with Utah and Oklahoma City.

This summer, in four games with the OKC Thunder’s Summer League team, Butler shined, averaging 20.0 points, 4.3 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game, while shooting 50-percent from the field. In his last game of the summer, he poured in eight three-pointers en route to 31 points.

During those past two seasons, Butler has played in 48 NBA contests, averaging 4.8 points and 1.5 assists.

Last year in the NBA G-League, he posted averages of 16.7 ppg, 6.3 mpg, 3.3 rpg, and 0.9 spg in his 27 total games split between the Grand Rapids Gold and the Thunders’ G League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue.

🔺 For the Kids. Our Bears have been busy impacting future generations this week!

On Monday morning, student-athletes from the women’s basketball, football, volleyball, equestrian and acrobatics/tumbling squads all spent time at MELA Camp, which is run by the Baylor School of Education.

Through the use of numbers and mind games, the Bears helped the kids learn through sports and activities.

“Education is the investment current generations make into impacting the lives of generations to come.”

Baylor Alumni and the Touchdown Club of Houston present this special opportunity to hear how the program is building a culture of excellence that includes a commitment to the physical, social, and spiritual development of players. Registration for the event includes dinner.

The event will take place at the Omni Houston Hotel on Thursday night from 7-9 pm.

🔺 Youth Of A Nation. This August, incoming Baylor men’s tennis star Devin Badenhorst will be taking on the world for the second time in his young career.

Badenhorst will compete for South Africa in the prestigious event, including Philip Henning, Leo Matthysen and Dylan Salton. Badenhorst is the youngest South African team member and is making his second appearance in the Davis Cup, also participating in Feb. of 2022.

South Africa has won the Davis Cup once in its history, in 1974 and has been participating in the event since 1913.

The Davis Cup Africa Group III will begin on Aug. 23 in Pretoria and will feature Algeria, Benin, Namibia, Senegal, Togo, Ivory Coast, South Africa and Zimbabwe. It will feature two round-robin groups of four, with three teams promoted.

🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 38 DAYS

We can smell the tailgate food.
We can see the Brazos lined with Green and Gold.
Baylor football is on the horizon.

To help count us down, we’ll give a daily countdown to look back on our favorite memories, players or a look into the record books.

For 38 days until kickoff, we look back to last November when a little trip to Norman ended with Baylor’s second-ever win in Sooner Country, a 38-35 nail biting victory.

That day, senior running back Craig “Sqwirl” Williams was the star, piling up a career-high 192 yards and two TDs on 25 carries.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: 2014.

That’s right, the other Baylor victory came in 2014 during the unforgettable run to the Big 12 Championship.

Bryce Petty had an unforgettable day, especially connecting with Corey Coleman as the Bears routed the Sooners back on Nov. 8, 2014 by the score of 48-14.

🐻 Have a great day, ya’ll!
