🎙 INSIDE BAYLOR SPORTS

May 16th Edition:
The Ticket Punchers

On today’s show we look at Baylor Men’s Golf advancing to the NCAA Championships, plus we discuss the evolution of a college sports fan in 2024.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 Punch That Ticket. For the sixth time in the past eight years, the Bears are headed to the ‘Ship.

In a hard-fought battle for a top-five spot, BU held off a fast-charging Alabama squad, along with Long Beach State to take the fifth and final spot with a 15-under, one ahead of the Crimson Tide and two ahead of LBSU.

The Bears were led by senior Johnny Keefer, who finished tied for second with a 12-under 198, just a shot back of North Carolina's Austin Greaser. In the process, Keefer set a new NCAA postseason program record, three shots better than Cooper Dossey's 201 at the Stanford Regional in 2017.

🔺 Horsin’ Around. Who doesn’t love a little battle for bragging rights?

Those always come into play when facing off against in-state opponents and that’s exactly what the BU football program secured this week with the announcement of a home-and-home series with SMU.

The Bears will travel to face SMU on Sept. 6, 2025, and the Mustangs will return the trip to Waco, with Baylor hosting on Sept. 19, 2026 at McLane Stadium. In each of those seasons, Baylor will play 11 power-4 conference foes.

🔺 Head Of Class. The Baylor women’s tennis program had plenty of success on the court this spring.

However, that success was not limited to just there. It carried over into the classroom as well.

This week, Isabella Harvison and Miska Kadleckova were named to the College Sports Communicators – formerly College Sports Information Directors Association – Academic All-District Team.

A native of Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif., Harvison is a graduate student with a communications major, sporting a 3.5 cumulative GPA. She is a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete honoree, who has also earned Academic All-Big 12 Second-Team accolades and Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll honors in her career.

Harvison posted a 12-6 record during the spring for the Bears in singles, including a 5-1 mark in Big 12 play.

Kadleckova stepped right into the Baylor lineup and led the Bears to the NCAA Tournament in 2024. A senior health, kinesiology and leisure studies major, she earned a 3.73 cumulative GPA. A native of Baska Bystrica, Slovakia, Kadleckova starred for the Bears in 2024, going 17-4, including a 16-4 mark on court 1, and finished the year ranked No. 95 in singles by the ITA.

🎙 SIC ‘EM POD: JOHNNY KEEFER

On today’s episode, we’re sitting down with one of Baylor’s best golfers in program history, Johnny Keefer.

From the moment he got to Waco, the graduate senior quickly became a staple in Coach McGraw’s lineups, and has continued to climb the all-time program ranks in a number of categories.

Now, in his 5th year, Johnny is leading a surging Bears team to postseason play.

Answer: 14.

Out of the nearly 300 schools that participate in men’s and women’s Division I golf, only 14 schools have both programs competing in the NCAA Championships. Baylor is among those 14 yet again this spring.
