🎙 INSIDE BAYLOR SPORTS
May 9th Edition:
A Big Addition
On today’s show we talk about the newest addition for
Baylor Men’s Basketball Norchad Omier, plus we
discuss the new coaching staff for Scott Drew’s program.
📈 STOCK UP
🔺 BIG Addition. The Bears just got bigger.
For the second time this offseason, BU men’s hoops added a transfer from the ACC as Coach Drew and crew announced the signing of Norchad Omier, from the University of Miami.
The first person from Nicaragua to receive a Division I basketball scholarship, Omier played two seasons with Miami, helping the Hurricanes to the first Final Four in program history in 2023. In 2024, he averaged a career-best 17.0 points per game, along with 10.0 rebounds, earning a spot on the All-ACC Second Team. He was also honored with the Skip Prosser Award for men's basketball last season, given to the top scholar-athlete in ACC men's basketball.
The only player in the conference to average at least 15 points and nine rebounds, he was the first Hurricane since Rion Brown in 2013-14 to lead the team in points and rebounds and just the sixth to do so since 1985.
🔺 Eye On The Prize. New day, same fight.
For the second straight day, the Baylor women’s golf team battled their way into contention with a strong finish.
In the second round of the NCAA Las Vegas Regional, the Bears fired a five-under on the back nine to finish 2-over for the first two rounds. BU sits in fifth place, one stroke ahead of Oklahoma and three ahead of Arizona.
The top five teams advance to the NCAA Championships.
Three Bears recorded rounds in red figures individually as Sera Hasegawa, Rosie Belsham and Ashleen Kaur carded 1-under 71s. Hasegawa leads the pack of Bears, tied for 10th with a 2-under 142, with Kaur and Belsham tied for 17th and 25th , respectively.
🔺 Golden Hour. A quick start led the Baylor baseball team to a home victory on a beautiful Tuesday evening in Waco.
BU scored in three of the first four innings, jumping out to a 7-2 lead on their way to a 11-4 defeat of visiting Tarleton.
Eight different Bears had hits on the night with Ty Johnson and Hunter Teplanszky each having a multi-hit performance. Johnson had a HR and scored four runs, while Teplanszky drove in two to lead a balanced offensive attack.
On the mound, seven different BU hurlers combined to strikeout eight, with Mason Green picking up his second win of the season with 1.2 scoreless innings of work.
🔺 Sweepin’ Up The Ws. When you start sweeping up trophies and plenty of wins, there’s no better last name to have than Broom.
Former BU men’s tennis standout Charlie Broom has had quite a two weeks on the pro tour, including taking home this past week’s 25k Singles Championship in Nottingham.
Two weeks ago, Broom was the 25k Doubles Champion and also the singles finalist. With his recent success, Broom is up to a career-best #196 in the ATP Rankings.
🎙 SIC ‘EM POD: ROSIE BELSHAM
On today’s episode, we’re joined by Baylor
women’s golf senior Rosie Belsham.
A native of Whitley Bay, England, Rosie grew up playing
field hockey and golf, but ultimately stuck with the latter
after winning tournaments and rising up the youth ranks overseas.
Rosie has found a home away from home here in Waco,
and has turned her time at Baylor into multiple All-Big 12
team selections, and has quickly become one of the
best athletes in Baylor women’s golf history.
🤔 SIC ’EM TRIVIA
Junior Hunter Teplanszky reached base on all five of his trips to the plate on Tuesday and has now reached base in eight straight plate appearances.
How many times has a Bear reached base in eight straight (or more) plate appearances this season?

🎉 CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES
Long ago, Kool & The Gang taught us to Celebrate Good Times and on Nov. 2nd, Baylor will do exactly that.
A pair of 11-2 and Big 12 Conference Championship teams will be celebrated during the upcoming 2024 Baylor Football season, as the Bears plan to recognize student-athletes from the 2013 and 2014 teams.
On Nov. 2 when Baylor plays TCU at McLane Stadium, the program will commemorate the 2013 and 2014 Big 12 Conference Championship teams.
