🏀 OH WHAT A NIGHT

For the first time in Baylor men’s basketball history, the Bears had not one, but ✌️ selections in the first round of the NBA Draft.

Both Ja’Kobe Walter and Yves Missi were selected in the top-21 picks of the first round with Walter going 19th to the Toronto Raptors and Missi going 21st to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Walter and Missi became the 10th and 11th Bears in program history to earn first round selections.

It also marks the fourth straight year that Baylor has had a selection in the top-20 of the first round.

Dynasty (n.): a powerful group or family that maintains
its position for a considerable time.

If you look the word up in the dictionary, you might find
a picture of the Baylor Acrobatics & Tumbling program.

There is no better display of a dynasty than 9️⃣
straight national championships.

That success didn’t happen over night and it’s the
relentless pursuit of greatness that has made the
BU A&T squad who they are today.

Go behind-the-scenes with the Bears as they
chased championship #9. Understand the work,
understand the culture, see the personalities up close and personal.

📈 STOCK UP

🔼 Peers In Paris. At this point, it’s almost a weekly occurance.

For the third straight week, a former Bear punched their ticket to the 2024 Olympics in Paris, this time it was former BU men’s tennis standout John Peers.

Peers will be playing in the doubles competition for Team Australia this summer.

🔼 Hat Tip. For just the third time in program history, a Baylor equestrian standout was named the Big 12 Conference Scholar-Athlete Of The Year.

This week, fifth-year star Maddie Vorhies was selected as this year’s Big 12 Equestrian Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

She is the third athlete in program history to earn the Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolade, the first since 2020.

An electrical and computer engineering major from Canton, Ga., Vorhies posted the highest Fences score of the season, scoring a 90 against No. 7 Oklahoma State. The fifth year picked up one Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) nod in Fences with an 88-ride against No. 1 TCU.

Carrying a 3.87 GPA, Vorhies earned a fourth-consecutive Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection, in addition to being named to the APHA NCEA All-Academic First Team and the NCEA Academic Honor Roll.

The Big 12 Conference established its Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award in 2012-13. A recipient is named in each conference-sponsored sport. Every Big 12 institution nominates one individual per sport, with the winners selected by the league head coaches for that sport, who are not allowed to vote for their student-athletes. Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominees must be a junior or senior (athletic and academic standing), have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher, participate in at least 20 percent of the team's scheduled contests and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution.

🏈 COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 65 DAYS

Number of the Day: 65.

After taking last season to learn under the watchful eye of
veteran teammates, Sean Thompkins is ready to make an impact
for the Green & Gold this season as the redshirt freshman
will be donning #65 yet again this fall.

Thompkins arrived in Waco last fall and redshirted last year
after joining the Bears as a three-star recruit out of the Peach State.
He was a two-time All-Region honoree during his time in his home state.

🎟 YOU PICK IT!

This week, Baylor Athletics unveiled a new Mini Plan option for the upcoming 2024 Football season.

The new “You Pick It” mini plan offers flexibility and allows fans to build their own mini-plan from three tiers of options to enjoy McLane Stadium this fall.

The Baylor Family can purchase the You Pick It mini plan for $225. Each plan includes the Bears' Homecoming Game on Oct. 26 against Oklahoma State and from there fans can build their plan based on their schedule for the remaining two games.

🎙 SIC ’EM POD: JASON JENNINGS

Arguably Baylor's best baseball player in school history, Jason Jennings
was a two-time All-American and the first consensus
National Player of the Year in Division I in 1999.

Jennings went on to be a 1st round pick when the Colorado Rockies
took him 16th overall, and had one of the most memorable debuts
in MLB history, pitching a 5-hit shutout while also hitting
his first career home run.

Now, after a successful career in the professional ranks,
Jennings is focused on family, and has found a career in
training the next generation of ball players.

🎉 TRIVIA ANSWER

Answer: Vinnie “The Microwave” Johnson.

Of course it was the Microwave.

Johnson was selected with the seventh overall pick in the 1979 NBA Draft by the Seattle SuperSonics. He is the second highest pick in BU history, only behind Ekpe Udoh, who went sixth overall in the 2010 draft.
