🔺 Electric Factory. We challenged y’all to bring and you BROUGHT IT. What an atmosphere on Friday night at Ferrell as our #16 Bears toppled #18 Rice, 3-1, in the 2023 home opener. Baylor served up 15 blocks in the victory.
🔺 Road Warriors. Baylor’s futbol squad has spent plenty of time bonding on the road in the first few weeks of the 2023 season and that road experience continued on Sunday. The Bears used two first half goals to prevail in a 2-0 road win at Butler to improve to 3-1 on the season with all three wins being shutouts. The 3-1 start is the best since 2019 and this is the first time since 2017 that the Bears have recorded three shutouts in the first four games of the season. Now, Baylor returns to Betty Lou Mays Field for a seven game homestand!
🔺 Off and Running. The women’s cross country team started the season strong by taking home the top spot at the UIW Twilight meet on Friday night. Led by junior Hayden Gold who finished second overall, the women had four top-10 finishers to pace the field. Baylor’s men also had a top-3 finish at the meet, led by veteran Ryan Hodge who finished seventh overall. The women's team win was the first for either Baylor team in a non-dual meet since the 2018 Bear Twilight that saw the men's victorious.
🔺 Battle With the Bobcats. A banged up Blake Shapen tossed for over 300-plus yards to try and rally the Baylor Football team, but Texas State, behind brand new transfer QB TJ Finley, defeated the Bears, 42-31, on Saturday evening in the season opener for both squads.
🔺 Dynamic Debut. Former Baylor star Nick Loftin earned his big league call-up late on Friday and made quite a debut, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Kansas City’s 13-2 rout of the Red Sox. Loftin became the 47th Bear all-time to play in the big leagues and second to debut this season, joining Cody Bradford of the Rangers.
