🎙 SIC ‘EM POD WITH COACH NICKI

Women’s Basketball at Baylor University has seen tremendous success over the years, and thanks to Head Coach Nicki Collen, it feels as if that level of success is going to continue for a long time.

In her first 2 years at Baylor, Coach Nicki has led the program to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons, back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances, and already has a BIG12 title under her belt. Now, in year 3, all of the pieces are coming together.

She is a mother, a former WNBA coach of the year, a relentless competitor, and is proud to be the head women’s basketball coach at Baylor University.

📈 STOCK UP

🔺 In Good Company. The rest of the country has now seen what BU fans knew for awhile now… Ja’Kobe Walter can hoop.

Yesterday, the freshman sensation was named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top-25 Watch List.

The McKinney, Texas, native is pacing the Bears and leads all freshmen in the Big 12 in scoring at 15.3 points per game. Doing his work against the biggest competition, Walter averages 15.6 points per game against power-conference foes.

🔺 The Hall Call. Two BU legends were solidified amongst the elite this week.

The National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) announced its inaugural Hall of Fame class on Wednesday afternoon, which includes former Baylor student-athlete Samantha Schaefer and former sport administrator Nancy Post.

Honorees must have made great and/or unusual contributions in support of the NCEA in personal time, effort, performance, and/or material and services over and above all ordinary expectations of the average supporter. Honorees were identified in three distinct categories: athletes (Legacy 2000-2007; Current 2008-2017), coaches and special contributors. Nominations were accepted from all current and former NCEA member institution representatives. The NCEA Board of Directors and Hall of Fame Selection Committee determined the honorees.

🔺 Bump In The Road. Throughout the many months of a college basketball season, some nights just aren’t your nights.

Wednesday night was that for the Baylor women’s hoops team who saw their undefeated start halted with a 87-66 defeat at Kansas.

Sophomore forward Darianna Littlepage-Buggs led BU with 16 points and six rebounds, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the line, while former Kentucky teammates Jada Walker and Dre'Una Edwards scored 11 points apiece. Aijha Blackwell came off the bench to score eight points and grab a team-high 11 rebounds.

🔺 Double Us Up. Just as the sunset shines through the glass at Foster Pavilion, the future of Baylor basketball continues to get brighter.

This week, Jason Asemota and Robert Wright III, two of BU’s early signees for next season, were named 2024 McDonald’s All-American Games nominees.

Asemota is a 6-8 forward out of Hillcrest Prep in Phoenix, Ariz. and Wright is 6-1 guard out of Philadelphia, who is playing his final high school season at Montverde Academy.

🔺 Earning His Stripes. Ok, ok, we know that Jaguars don’t have stripes, but just go with it.

For the second straight season, the NFLPA released an All-Pro team that was voted on solely by the players around the league.
